A multitude of users share a mere handful of IP addresses. VPN services connect a large number of users through the same VPN server, and many users are routed through the same “spoofed” IP address.

This also gives the connection a new IP address, which makes it appear as if the user is connected in another location, which could be down the street (or on the other side of the world!). The connection is then encrypted to hide the user’s online activities from prying eyes. When a VPN subscriber loads their VPN app of choice onto their device and connects to the VPN service, their internet connection is then routed through one of the VPN provider’s servers. For that reason, many users leave their VPN turned on all of the time.

While internet users may have had only one usage reason in mind when they subscribed to their VPN provider, I’d be willing to bet most users have discovered that a VPN makes a great way to protect their internet usage – no matter what their online antics.
